Check out this interesting video by the ESA (European Space Administration). Pros...it blew me away. Cons...It got me worried. Its a promotional video that discusses the Rossetta mission to land on an asteroid. They use a famous actor from King of Thrones and they use an abundance of sci-fi special computer generated effects.
Now let me tell you why I am worried about this video. The ESA is responsible for taking loads of astronomical photos, which could very easily be created on todays computers. If the ESA is using Hollywood special effects to advertise, then how do we know that they are not using these same effects to make their own astronomical photos? Its easy for them to computer generate Mars or moon photos and dish them off to the public as real. I mean who would notice the difference? What I am saying is if the ESA wants to be taken seriously, they should not be making special effects movie shorts.
I don't know about you, but this causes me to look at their photos with more scrutiny. I have seen a lot of their Mars photos and I have to admit, I do notice that many of them have been manipulated using a smoothing out program to clean them up. Their Mars photos are too perfect, unlike NASAs Mars photos. So I ask, who's photos are lies? NASA or the ESA? SCW
