I recently got an onslaught of comments and emails about this particular photo, and when I got a look at it myself, I have to admit it stumped me. Thanks guys for sending telling me about this. This looks like a fungus, and I have seen these white objects growing under a lot of rocks on Mars, but never just out in the open. People always said it was my imagination, just a reflection making the rock look white under it. This is not even a possibility in this case, and its the same thing I've seen dozens of times before. I am certain that this object is alive, but is it animal, vegetable, or mineral? I've heard about living rocks that excrete a yellow sticky substance that has unknown uses (found on cigar ship in Deporte Crater said William Rutledge). Honestly, even if its a fungus, its not a breakthrough. Life on once existed on Mars in a massive scale, so its only logical some still exists. A fungus or living rock does not impress me, nor will it get a confession from NASA. It is however very interersting, and I will start making a file with these white fungus-like objects in it with the URLs on the photos. Its common to find them, just not out in the open sunlight like this. This video below made by Whatsupinthesky37 really gets a good look at it. He's a dedicated Mars researcher who is making his mark in this area, so keep an eye on him. SCW
